The Institute of Indonesia Chartered Accountants (IAI) through the Task Force on Comprehensive Corporate Reporting (Indonesia Task Force on CCR) expressed its support to the International Sustainability Standards Board’s (ISSB) proposal on Exposure Draft IFRS S1 General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information and Exposure Draft IFRS S2 Climate-related Disclosures. In its comment letter, the Indonesia Task Force on CCR supports the aspiration for a comprehensive global baseline for the disclosure of sustainability-related financial information and climate related disclosures, whilst highlighting several key improvements to be considered by ISSB in their further deliberation.

The ISSB’s global baseline presents a unique opportunity to reduce existing and further fragmentation of sustainability disclosure requirements as well as improve compatibility with financial reporting. “We recognize how the ISSB initiative are significantly different to existing sustainability disclosure framework, with the proposed standards aiming to ensure compatibility and interconnectedness of sustainability disclosure with financial reporting and meet the needs of the capital market.” stated by Chair of Indonesia Task Force on CCR, Rosita Uli Sinaga.

International collaboration in the development of the global baseline is essential to create a disclosure framework that can be implemented globally, resulting in a consistent approach across markets. In its comment letter, the Indonesia Task Force on CCR emphasizes the need to ensure international applicability and harmonization with jurisdictional requirements such as the use of general definition or jurisdictional regulations instead of certain country standards and promote scalability particularly in emerging countries.

As leader in the Indonesia Task Force on CCR, IAI ensures the membership of the Task Force includes representatives from regulators, relevant ministries, professional accountancy organization, and preparers to corroborate the insight and concern from relevant key stakeholders.  IAI recognizes the importance of cooperation in Indonesia in harmonizing key disclosure requirements in the standards with Indonesia’s prevailing regulations and business characteristic.
