Jakarta, August 19, 2025 – Ikatan Akuntan Indonesia (The Institute of Indonesia Chartered Accountants (IAI)), together with the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), paid a courtesy visit to the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK RI) as a strategic step to strengthen governance, accountability, and transparency at both the national and global levels. This visit marked an important milestone for Indonesia in demonstrating its commitment to actively contributing to the global ecosystem of the accounting and auditing profession.
The courtesy visit was received by the Chair of BPK, Dr. Isma Yatun, accompanied by Acting Secretary General of BPK, Bahtiar Arif, Head of the State Finance Audit Education and Training Agency (PKN), Yudi Ramdan Budiman, Senior Advisor for Risk Management, Hery Subowo, Head of Certification and Training Development Center, Satrio Hari Nugroho, and Head of Public Relations and International Cooperation Bureau, Teguh Widodo. The IAI–IFAC delegation was represented by Jean Bouquot (President of IFAC), Dr. Ardan Adiperdana (Chairman of the IAI National Council), Prof. Sidharta Utama (IAI Council Member/IFAC Board Member), Prof. Lindawati Gani (IAI Council Member/Member of IFAC PAIB Advisory Group/Member of BPK’s MKKE), and Elly Zarni Husin (Executive Director of IAI). This strategic visit reaffirmed Indonesia’s growing role in global discussions on the accounting profession and international standard setting.
IAI President, Dr. Ardan Adiperdana, highlighted that the partnership between IAI, BPK, and IFAC is a crucial pillar in strengthening the competitiveness of the Indonesian accountancy profession. “As a founding member of IFAC, IAI remains committed to adopting and adapting international standards in line with Indonesia’s context. IAI’s cooperation with BPK has long taken shape in various initiatives on capacity building, standard harmonization, and reinforcing the role of accountants in the public sector,” he said.
Ardan also expressed appreciation for BPK’s strategic role in strengthening state financial management and accountability. He noted that many BPK leaders are actively engaged in IAI, both as members of the National Council and the Supervisory Board. Nationwide, more than 20% of BPK employees are currently members of IAI and also serve on IAI regional boards.
The meeting underscored Indonesia’s strategic position in the global arena. IFAC recognizes BPK as a Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) with a strong international reputation, while IAI serves as the driving force of the national accountancy profession. Their collaboration is expected to foster best practices in accounting, standard-setting, and sustainability reporting.
Future Collaboration
This courtesy visit was made even more meaningful as it coincided with a series of major IFAC activities in Indonesia. In addition to participating in the Risk & Governance Summit organized by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) on August 19, 2025, and addressing APAFest 2025 at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia, IFAC will also convene IFAC Connect Asia Pacific 2025 in December. This event will form part of the celebrations of IAI’s 68th Anniversary, with BPK expressing its full support for its success.
Through the synergy of BPK, IAI, and IFAC, Indonesia is reinforcing its position as a key player in strengthening global governance. This collaboration not only enhances national accountability and transparency, but also contributes positively to the international community by advancing sustainable governance.
